According to transfer expert Guillem Balague, who has close connections with Lionel Messi, the Argentine is on the verge of joining Inter Miami.
After leaving French champion Paris Saint-Germain, Messi will turn down a lucrative contract in Saudi Arabia and sign as a free agent with Major League Soccer club Inter Miami.
Messi, who played his penultimate game for Paris Saint-Germain over the weekend, was also linked with a return to Barcelona, but the Spanish club’s hands were tied by LaLiga’s financial fair play regulations.
If the agreement with Miami goes through, the 35-year-old Argentine will play outside of Europe for the first time since he joined Barcelona’s youth academy at age 13 and became the club’s all-time leading scorer with 672 goals.
Messi, who guided Argentina to World Cup victory in Qatar in December and has won a record seven Ballon d’Or awards, led PSG to Ligue 1 and French Super Cup titles in his two seasons with the club, as well as the French Super Cup in 2022.
