Former Dutch international Rafael Van Der Vaart has urged Barcelona midfielder and Dutch international Frenkie De Jong to join Manchester United this summer.
New Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag has identified Frenkie De Jong as one of his top priorities this summer as he begins rebuilding Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag had previously worked with Frenkie De Jong at Ajax in 2018. Frenkie De Jong was part of the Ajax team that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The 25-year-old joined Barcelona in 2019 for a fee of €75 million for five years.De Jong has been able to hit top gear for Barcelona. The Dutch midfielder has made 140 appearances for Barcelona scoring 13 goals.
However, Barcelona will only allow Frenkie De Jong to Manchester United if they can meet Barcelona’s €80 million asking prices. Earlier this week Netherland National team coach Louis Van Gaal was quoted saying that Frenkie De Jong is worth €121 million.
There are reports this week that Frenkie De Jong agent is in Spend to discuss the future of Dutch international.
According to Van Der Vaart, Frenkie De Jong will fit well into Manchester United and a move to the Premier League will be ideal for the 25 years old.
What did Van Der Vaart say?
In an Interview with Ziggo Sports, the former Real Madrid midfielder said:” That is of course the most ideal. Then you have a trainer who knows exactly what you can and cannot do.
.”And United still needs a little quality.’
“There are players who can do the same and maybe be better than you or have performed more.
“As long as those other players are there, he is out of place at Barcelona. At United, he could play more like with the Dutch national team. Then he’s the only one of his kind.”
Manchester United is reported to have agreed on personal terms with Ajax winner Antony with a deal for the Brazilian international expected to be announced by next week.
The Red Devils have seen the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Edinson Cavani leave Old Trafford this month for free. Erik Ten Hag is expected to replace all these players and strengthen other departments too.
