Rachel Bilson Claims Ex-classmate Rami Malek Requested She Deletes Throwback of Them

Rachel Bilson said she was “super bummed” when Rami Malek asked her to remove a throwback photo of them from Instagram.

Bilson shared a photo of herself with the Bohemian Rhapsody star, whom she attended Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles with, when they were teenagers on a trip to New York in February 2019. But, according to the actor from The O.C., on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, while she was amused by the “dorky” photo posted just before Malek’s Oscar win for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, he wasn’t.

The 39 year old went on to explain their relationship, saying they were “good friends” at the time.

“I had posted a throwback photo of us from our senior trip to New York, Broadway,” she said. “We’re a bunch of nerds… Just the wackiest photo of the two of us. But I throw it up because it’s funny, and I believe it’s essential to be able to laugh at yourself.”

Bilson stated that she checked her Instagram direct messages a week later and discovered Malek had contacted her.

“It wasn’t as if they were saying, ‘Hey! ‘How are you doing?’ It was direct: ‘I would greatly appreciate it if you took that down.’ “I’m a very private person,” she said.

“I was like, ‘Oh, s***!'” Okay.’ I become extremely hot and begin to sweat. I’m all tense, like, ‘Oh god! ‘What exactly did I do?’ He was a good friend of mine, and it’s a funny picture…you know what I mean? “I don’t take myself seriously,” Bilson continued.

She remarked that his stylist, who was also a friend of hers, had told her that “it’s not a great picture of him”

“I was like, oh, I guess I should have found something more flattering,” Bilson admitted. “But I took it down, and I even wrote him a really nice message saying, ‘I’m so sorry.’ Go get your Oscar! You’re doing an incredible job.’ And I never get a response, which is fine. But I was devastated because he was always so nice to me and we were such good friends.”

Bilson went on to say that she was “a little bummed” about how it had been “handled”
