On Thursday night, a Philadelphia police officer was shot and killed in a parking garage at Philadelphia International Airport, according to Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford.
According to Stanford, the gunfire occurred just after 11 p.m., as officers were coming for work.
According to Stanford, the officers spotted a car break-in but were greeted with gunshots when they approached the perpetrators.
One police officer was shot many times in the upper chest, according to Stanford. According to Stanford, he died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center at 11:30 p.m. According to a report from Jefferson University Hospital, the other cop is doing OK. The bullet went through his arm.
The slain officer was 50 years old and had been with the Philadelphia Police Department for 22 years, according to Stanford. He worked for the 25th Police District before being assigned to the airport. His wife and their son survive him. The officer’s identity will not be published at this time, according to Stanford.
The other officer in the stable is likewise rather senior, with 60 years of service and 60 years of age.
According to Stanford, authorities believe the suspect vehicle was a Dodge Durango, although they are still working to confirm this. They’ve initiated an investigation and are seeking to provide more information to the public.
The incident’s 18-year-old victim was transferred by private car to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was subsequently proclaimed dead. Stanford has claimed that they are actively looking into his alleged involvement in the airport brawl.
One of the officers is also said to have misplaced his firearms.
Three Philadelphia police officers were shot during a domestic altercation in the city’s Northeast district a week ago. The three cops have since been released from the hospital.
