Officials reported Monday that a driver was injured after crashing into the second floor of a Pennsylvania residence on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred in the 800 block of Alfarta Road in Decatur Township at 3:15 p.m., according to the Junction Fire Company, which arrived on the scene “within minutes.”
FOX 43 reported that firefighters discovered the driver’s side of the vehicle lodged in a second-floor room upon arrival. Photos revealed that the vehicle’s passenger side came to rest on the roof while the trunk and rear tires hung from the residence.
Officials from the Junction Fire Department did not immediately explain how the vehicle ended up on the second floor but subsequently stated that the driver may have lost control after striking a culvert.
The driver of the vehicle was sent to Geisinger Lewistown for treatment in an uncertain condition. Officials added that rescue teams assisted in covering the damaged part of the home ahead of an approaching storm.
“The Rescues crew stabilized the house and assisted the homeowners in putting a tarp over the hole due to the impending storms,” the Junction Fire Company said, adding that police and Parsons Towing participated in the effort.
According to FOX 43, it took emergency crews around three hours to extricate the truck from the residence.
Apart from the driver, no one else was hurt in the accident. It’s unclear how many people were inside the house when the automobile landed on the roof.
Lewistown state police are investigating the incident, which they say was caused by “the driver attempting to inflict self-harm due to a mental health episode.”
The driver will face charges, according to the spokeswoman.
