Authorities in Mexico reported that a bus toppled off a cliff on the western side of the country, killing at least 18 people and injuring more than 30, including nearly a dozen children.
Reuters reported that the prosecutor’s office in Nayarit stated Sunday evening that the bus fell approximately 50 feet down a ravine on Saturday night.
The incident occurred in the Mexican state of Nayarit near a highway connecting the popular tourist destinations of Tepic and Puerto Vallarta.
The Security and Civil Protection Ministry of Nayarit released images depicting rescuers pulling victims from the devastation.
Officially, there were 11 women and seven males among the deceased. According to the report, at least eleven children were transferred to local hospitals.
In February, a bus accident in the central Mexican state of Puebla claimed the lives of 17 individuals.
Officials reported that fifteen of the 45 passengers were declared deceased at the scene, and two others died en route to the hospital.
