After almost a dozen infants were injured after falling out of high chairs, federal product safety officials said Thursday that over 85,000 high chairs were being recalled throughout North America.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission notified the recall of 83,000 Boon Flair and Flair Elite highchairs sold in the US and 2,850 in Canada. TOMY International of Oak Brook, Illinois, imported the highchairs.
Possibility of endangering safety
According to the safety commission’s statement, high chairs pose a significant danger to youngsters.
According to the organization, 34 cases of the chair being disconnected from its base resulted in 24 falls and 11 injuries (including bruises and scratches).
The safety commission recalls highchairs because “the bolts used to secure the seat of the recalled highchair to the pedestal base can become loose and allow the seat to detach, posing a fall hazard,” according to the recall.
Which high chairs have been recalled?
This recall applies to all Boon Flair and Boon Flair Elite highchairs manufactured before September 2016.
According to the agency, the recalled Flair Elite chairs include an orange and white molded plastic seat, a white tray, and a metal frame. The Flair highchairs were available in ten color schemes with a gray plastic base.
Where were the impacted high chairs sold?
Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Toys ‘R’ Us offered the recalled high chairs. They were available for purchase on the websites of many big merchants.
The Flair Elite was sold in 2008 and 2009, while the ordinary Flair series was sold from January 2008 to February 2017.
What to Do Next
According to the Safety Commission’s findings, customers should stop using the recalled equipment immediately and contact TOMY for a free repair kit.
