Former Brazilian international Edmundo has warned Neymar against signing for Newcastle United this summer.
It was reported that Paris Saint Germain has informed Neymar to look for a new club as he is no longer part of the new project at Paris Saint Germain following the renewal of Kylian Mbappe’s contract.
Paris Saint Germain will allow Neymar to leave this summer if they get the right offer. The Parisian club has placed a £ 50 million price tag on the Brazilan Superstar. Neymar had triggered an automatic clause in his Paris Saint Germain contract that will see him stay at the Club until 2027.
Newcastle United and Chelsea have emerged as the potential destination for the Brazilian international. Barcelona is also keen on signing the Brazilian. Neymar’s current salary at Paris Saint Germain makes it difficult for clubs to sign him.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and now Newcastle United are the clubs that have the financial might to complete such a deal.
However, Edmundo believes Neymar will find it difficult to adapt to the weather at Newcastle.
What did Edmundo say about Neymar joining Newcastle United?
The former Brazilian international said via podcast Mundo Ed, “Newcastle is the nouveau riche. Now, I’ve been to Newcastle, it’s a small, cold town.
“If he has difficulty adapting in Paris, he would not be satisfied in Newcastle. If they pay him what he earns, he goes.
“But he needs to be focused, concentrated, even because it’s a World Cup year. If he has the equal performance to the last two World Cups, will the next coach see him as a pillar for the future?”
Edmundo also thinks Neymar’s decision to join Paris Saint Germain was not the right decision.
The former Brazilian international added: “It was not a good choice for him to go to PSG.
“It was natural that he would earn what Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo earn, but over time, at Barcelona.
“He understood that he should go to PSG because of the money. The sports project was spectacular, but it was more for the team to show up than to win.”
The former Brazilian international believes the Italian Serie A will suit Neymar better than the Premier League.
He continued: “I played for Napoli for six months, great to live in, beautiful, passionate fans. It would be great, he would do well in Italy.”
Meanwhile, Newcastle forward and Brazil international Joelinton has urged Neymar to join Newcastle.
In an interview with the Cast FC podcast, Joelinton said: “We can get him a spot, sure! In any team in the world. If he comes it will be…
“I can’t explain it, the man is an idol, is huge in world soccer. So, the invitation is done. Ney, if you are listening to this, you can come. I’ll run for you all the time.
“If we have the chance I hope the coach will call him. The number 10 shirt is there waiting for him. I’ll send a message to Bruno. Bruno has his contact, he can send a message inviting Ney to play there.”
