In an interview with CBS News, former vice president Mike Pence expressed his opinions about the approaching 2024 presidential elections, stating that “serious” candidates would need to “be in this contest by June.”
In an interview that will run on Sunday, April 23, he said, “I think that anyone that would be serious about seeking the Republican nomination would need to be in this contest by June.”
“When we have an announcement to make, it will be well before late June,” the former vice president continued.
Robert Costa, the chief election and campaign correspondent for CBS News, questioned Vice President Pence about if he was considering running for president. Pence responded, “Well, I’m here in Iowa.”
Both Pence and his wife, Karen Pence, the former second lady, have previously stated to Fox News Digital that they “both believe that we’ll have a clear sense of our call this spring.”
The first four states on the GOP’s presidential nomination calendar, Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, have seen a lot of visits from the former vice president during the last two years.
If Pence were to run, he would follow in the footsteps of former President Donald Trump, who announced his bid for president in the middle of November. Nikki Haley, a former ambassador and governor of South Carolina, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a businessman, author, and conservative pundit, both began their presidential bids in February.
Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, a Republican, said in April that he had formed a presidential exploratory committee, which was a significant step toward his presidential campaign.
