An 84-year-old pro-life activist who was canvassing door-to-door in Michigan against a proposed constitutional amendment that would ensure abortion access for women in the state was shot and injured by an individual who has been charged with shooting and wounding the victim.
On Friday, criminal assault and careless discharge of a firearm resulting in harm charges were brought against Richard Harvey, 74 years old.
According to a statement released by Ionia County Prosecutor Kyle Butler, Michigan State Police conducted an investigation into the incident that occurred at Harvey’s home in Odessa Township on September 20, and they recommended that the prosecutor’s office arrest him.
Joan Jacobson, the woman, told detectives that prior to being told to leave, she had been encouraging another woman at the residence to vote against Proposal 3 in the election scheduled for November.
