Authorities say a Mississippi woman fatally shot her husband while streaming on Facebook Live.
Saturday at 7:42 a.m., the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of domestic violence at 500 Green Tree Drive, according to a press release. When they arrived, they discovered a man who had been killed by a single gunshot.
Authorities arrested 28-year-old Kadejah Michelle Brown on suspicion that she shot and killed her husband. She is accused of murder.
The sheriff’s office stated simply that the victim was 28 years old, but the coroner’s office confirmed to the Commercial Dispatch that the victim was Jeremy Brown, a residence resident. He was declared deceased at the scene.
According to investigators, the pair engaged in a violent altercation over a disagreement. Facebook Live was used to record the incident.
The Commercial Dispatch reports that only the audio portion of the incident was posted on Facebook.
“The phone had been tossed down, and then you heard the gunshot,” Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told the press. In addition to other physical evidence, the sheriff’s office reported a 9-millimeter handgun was seized at the scene.
Brown was arrested and transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, where she is being held pending her initial court appearance. No bond has yet been established.
The incident is still being investigated.
“Brown had a history of domestic violence against the victim. This was a senseless and tragic murder, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family. Brown has been apprehended, and we anticipate the criminal justice system holding her accountable “Hawkins said.
Similar violence against family members has occurred throughout the United States this year. A man from Alabama was detained earlier this month on suspicion of murdering his parents. Trinell Brown, 25 years old, allegedly confessed the crime to witnesses, according to a Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Before allegedly shooting and killing his parents, investigators believe Brown confronted them about an ongoing family conflict at their home.
