On Thursday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy released the specifics of his “Commitment to America” agenda, which includes policies to combat inflation, illegal immigration, and only allowing women to participate in women’s sports. Among other things, the agenda focuses on reducing the number of undocumented immigrants.
McCarthy, a Republican from California, has been teasing the agenda for months as a promise that may assist them in regaining the House majority and a roadmap for how to rule in 2023. The agenda consists of a list of general policy ideas organized into four major categories: “An Economy That Is Strong;” “An Environment That Is Stable;” “A Government That Is Accountable;” “A Nation That Is Safe;” “A Future That Is Built on Freedom;” and “A Government That Is Safe”
The strategy is based on the playbook of the “Contract With America,” which was the platform that helped former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., earn a majority for the GOP in the 1990s. On Thursday, Gingrich will take part in a gathering with other Republicans to discuss the agenda for the day.
