Observations following the Yankees’ 4-1 spring training loss to the Orioles on Friday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, Masahiro Tanaka developed a calf injury.
Green O’Day
Chad Green and Darren O’Day both pitched well, with O’Day striking out the only batter he faced and Green pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Closing time
Aroldis Chapman was booed as he walked off the mound after allowing three runs and throwing three wild pitches in the seventh inning. Aaron Boone stated that Chapman was “yanking the ball,” which will need to be addressed.
Caught my eye
While the two starters the Yankees brought in with injury histories — Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon — have remained healthy, Masahiro Tanaka will miss his first start with the Rakuten Golden Eagles due to a right calf strain. The 32-year-old is expected to be out of commission for three weeks.
Saturday’s schedule
Jhoulys Chacin is scheduled to pitch for the Yankees against the Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. At the Player Development Complex, Taillon will conduct live batting practice.
