According to reports, Manchester City has prepared a bid of over £30million for Brighton defender and Chelsea target Marc Cucurella.
The Spanish left-back has been impressive for Graham Potter’s side since joining Brighton from Getafe in Spanish La Liga. the La Masia graduate has won Brighton & Hove Albion player of the season and player’s player of the season after impressing in his first season with Seagulls.
The 23 years Spaniard has scored 1 and provided 2 assists in 34 appearances for Brighton. He is known for his good strong defensive abilities and he is not afraid to go forward. a good attribute for a player of his age. He is often deployed as a wing-back by Graham Potter.
Manchester City manager is impressed with compatriot and wants to add Marc Cucurella to his star-studded squad next season. the left-back position is one of the departments that Manchester City lacks personnel with Joao Cancelo and Oleksandr Zinchenko mostly deployed in that role despite not being their natural position.
The only natural left-back in the Manchester City squad is the embattled French international Benjamin Mendy. Benjamin Mendy faces trial on the counts of multiple sexual assaults against a different woman. the French left-back is still suspended by Manchester City pending the outcome of the case.
the signing of a new left-back is imminent for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Marc Cucurella’s style of play will fit Pep Guardiola’s philosophy as the La Masia graduate is not shy going forward and he is better at defending than Zinchenko. looking at his age and this market value Manchester City would have made a proper deal if they buy the Brighton defender.
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is also fond of the Spaniards and is ready to battle Manchester City for the signature of Marc Cucurella. Chelsea also faces similar problems as Manchester City in the same position.
With Marcos Alonso expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Ben Chilwell will be the only natural left-back or wing in the Chelsea setup. Chelsea’s season took a wrong hit this season when Ben Chilwell got injured earlier in the season leaving Alonso as the only natural left-back at Chelsea.
The Spaniard will settle quickly at Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel plays the same 3-5-2 formation at Brighton with Cucurella often deployed as a wingback.
Manchester City has already shown that they meant business in the summer transfer after securing the signature of Erling Halaand from Dortmund. there are also reports that Pep Guardiola has been given 300 million pounds to spend this summer.
Chelsea on the other hand is expected to be busy during the summer transfer with players like Antonio Rudiger already confirmed to be joining Real Madrid, Andrea Christensen also reported to have agreed to join Barcelona next season.
Cesar AZpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are expected to make moves this summer.
The new owner Todd Boehly is expected to back Thomas Tuchel in the transfer market to replace all these stars.
