Jadon Sancho’s loan agreement with Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund is reportedly being discussed, an ESPN source has revealed.
Dortmund wants to sign Sancho until the end of this season, but they also want United to cover the majority of his salary.
After a public argument with manager Erik Ten Hag in August, the 23-year-old hasn’t appeared on the field for United since.
The England forward has been kept out of the first team for four months and is now required to train by himself under the guidance of club employees.
Juventus and RB Leipzig have also expressed interest in Sancho; however, a source claims that he would prefer to return to his previous team. In 2021, he signed a £73 million deal to join United after leaving Dortmund.
While Ten Hag is manager, United’s executives acknowledge that Sancho’s future at Old Trafford is unlikely, but they still want to keep his departure as cheap as possible.
Sancho’s salary of over £300k per week is too expensive for nearly all European clubs, including Dortmund, so United will have to foot the bill in part.
For Donny van de Beek, United and Eintracht Frankfurt arranged a loan agreement whereby the German team paid the bulk of the midfielder’s salary. However, a source close to Dortmund claims that United wants to cover as much as two-thirds of Sancho’s salary.
Sancho made his final appearance for United on August 26 in a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, coming on as a second-half substitute.
On September 3, he was left off the team for Arsenal’s 3-1 loss. He later posted a statement on social media challenging Ten Hag’s justification for the decision, which was based on his subpar training results.
Before allowing Sancho to rejoin the team, Ten Hag has insisted on a public and private apology, which he has so far refused to provide.
