At Minden, Louisiana, Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, and his daughter, 31, were discovered dead at their residence.
After reportedly informing police that he had shot and killed a former mayor and his adult daughter over the weekend, a 10-year-old Louisiana child was taken into custody.
When police arrived at the Minden residence at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, they discovered the deaths of Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, a former councilman of Minden and the temporary mayor, and Keisha Miles, 31, his daughter, inside with several gunshot wounds, according to KSLA-TV.
The youngster was taken to the police station by a guardian, where the station stated he confessed to the killings.
The 10-year-old boy’s identify and his connection to the victims have not yet been made public by the police. The reasons for the shooting have not been made public by the investigators.
Following an apparent altercation between Cornelius and the 10-year-old child over credit card costs for video games, neighbors told the channel they heard roughly eight gunshots.
According to Minden Police Chief Jared McIver, the youngster has not shown regret for the suspected deaths, as reported by the site.
In a social media post, Minden Mayor Nick Cox honored Cornelius for his community efforts.
“Joe Cornelius’s years of service to Minden were marked by his commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community,” Cox said. “On a personal note, I am grateful for his friendship and the many ways he supported me and others in our city.”
