Sources say Liverpool is close to securing RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Sources indicate that Liverpool has activated a release clause in Szoboszlai’s contract, which is believed to be around €70 million ($76 million).
Szoboszlai, 22, is expected to travel to Liverpool this weekend for a medical examination; personal terms have already been agreed upon. If the transfer goes through, he will be Liverpool’s second summer signing after Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton, who arrived for an initial £35 million.
The international attacking midfielder scored 10 goals and dished out 13 assists in 46 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions last season. He would be the Bundesliga club’s second marquee departure, following Christopher Nkunku’s €60 million move to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window, and Newcastle had previously expressed interest.
In light of the departure of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has prioritized strengthening his midfield this summer.
