In response to a freight train derailing in Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon, Governor Andy Beshear issued a state of emergency declaration.
In a statement released Wednesday night, Beshear’s office reported that several freight train cars had derailed in Rockcastle County, which is in the southeast of the state.
At least fifteen train cars were involved in the incident, according to FOX 56.
“By issuing a state of emergency, we are ensuring that every state resource is available to help keep our families safe,” Beshear stated. “Please stay clear of this area as state, local, and CSX officials respond.”
Additionally, the governor of Kentucky announced that residents of Livingston, Kentucky, were being urged to leave.
