Liverpool announced on their official website that Jurgen Klopp has extended his contract to 2026.
Jurgen Klopp arrived in October 2015 after Brendan Rodgers was sacked and has helped establish Liverpool as one of the best clubs in Europe during that time.
The extension will make the German the longest-serving coach in the Premier, he has won 1 Champions League,1 Premier League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the EFL Cup.
The German explained that his family and the Liverpool fans were the main reasons why is extending his contract.
What was said?
“When I said around the last contract extension that in 2024 that’s it, then it was actually a private agreement,” Klopp explained.
“The most important contract in my life I signed is the one with Ulla. That’s where it started again.
“We sat in the kitchen at the table and Ulla said, ‘I can’t see us leaving in 2024.’ It’s about so many people. That’s the first moment and then, of course, it’s about the club and all the people I don’t know personally but I know as well, so that’s how it all started.”
The German also said the next person he consulted was Pepijn Lijnders, his assistant coach.
“When I thought about it then it was clear I needed to have one more really important conversation and that was the one to Pep Lijnders,” said Klopp. “He is probably the main reason for it because he is a real energizer.
“You know him, this man is on fire and our connection is beyond football things. When he said, ‘Oh, yes, I am in!’ then it was clear that we are open for talks. That’s why we sit here now. [And] Pete and I are like an old couple, but with him, it is the same.
Jurgen Klopp also insisted he feels blessed and delighted to manage Liverpool for another 4 years.
He said:‘There is so many words I could use to describe how I am feeling about this news… Delight, humbled, blessed, privileged, and excited would be a start,’ he said.
‘There is just so much to love about this place. I knew that before I came here, I got to know it even better after I arrived and now I know it more than ever before.
‘Like any healthy relationship, it always has to be a two-way street; you have to be right for each other.
‘The feeling we were absolutely right for each other is what brought me here in the first place and it’s why I’ve extended previously.’
Klopp has ‘ managed Liverpool since 2015, and acknowledges that he had to ask himself two questions before committing his long-term future to the club.
‘This one is different because of the length of time we have been together. I had to ask myself the question: Is it right for Liverpool that I stay longer?’ he added.
‘Along with my two assistant managers, Pep Lijnders and Pete Krawietz, we came to the conclusion it was a “Yes!”
‘There is a freshness about us as a club still and this energizes me. For as long as I have been here, our owners have been unbelievably committed and energetic about this club and it is clear that right now this applies to our future as much as I’ve ever known.
‘We are a club that is constantly moving in the right direction. We have a clear idea of what we want; we have a clear idea of how we try to achieve it. That’s always a great position to start from.
‘When the owners brought the possibility of renewal to me, I asked myself the question I’ve mused over publicly. Do I have the energy and vibe to give of myself again what this amazing place requires from the person in the manager’s office?
‘I didn’t need too long to answer in truth. The answer was very simple… I’m in love with her and I feel fine!’
