Rep. Jim Jordan asserts that progressive activists affiliated with Sen. Elizabeth Warren pressured a member of the Federal Trade Commission to vote in ‘lockstep’ with the chair, Lina Khan.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has leveled criticism at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) under the administration of Vice President Joe Biden for obstructing scrutiny by the Republican-controlled House. Now, he is seeking for further emails that corroborate his argument that progressive activists affiliated with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) pressured a senior official into falling in “lockstep” with FTC Chair Lina Khan for the purpose of “optics.” He believes that this would be in the best interest of the FTC.
On Friday, Jordan sent two letters, one to Khan and the other to FTC Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya. Copies of these letters were obtained by Fox News Digital. Jordan is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
First, Jordan responded to a letter that had been sent to him by Khan earlier in the week. In this letter, Khan accused the Republican of engaging in a “campaign to intimidate and harass” professional staff members of the Federal Trade Commission by threatening to subpoena FTC workers. In reaction, Jordan said that Khan “has repeatedly attempted to chill the Committee’s oversight by lodging frivolous accusations of ethical violations against the Committee’s professional staff and grossly mischaracterizing the Committee’s actions.” Khan “has repeatedly attempted to chill the Committee’s oversight by lodging frivolous accusations of ethical violations against the Committee’s professional staff and”
Jordan responded by saying, “The accusations that you made in your most recent letter are baseless and legally deficient.” As a result of the peculiar response you gave to this oversight, we have begun looking into the possibility that you and your senior staff are attempting to obstruct the Committee’s monitoring in order to prevent the possibility of being embarrassed. “The investigation that is being hampered by your actions focuses on the way you have mistreated and managed career employees at the FTC. The oversight that is being provided by the Committee is unable to continue in light of the concerted efforts being made to undermine it.
