Romelu Lukaku was signed from Inter Milan for a record £97.5million as a statement signing to help solve their goal-scoring woes and help close the gap between them and Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Belgian striker has been a plea shadow of himself after his record move to Chelsea and has failed to replicate his last season’s form at Inter Milan.

A season in which he scored 30 goals in 44 appearances last term to help Inter Milan win their first Serie A title since 2010.

Lukaku started the season well scoring in his first game at Arsenal.but injuries and off-pitch issues like the controversial interview he granted with SkySport where he claimed that Thomas Tuchel is playing him at of position and that he missed Inter Milan.

Since the interview came out the Belgian has lost his place to Kai Havertz and has not delivered whenever he is given the opportunity.

Lukaku has only scored five Premier League goals this season and has been linked with a move away from the club, with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona rumored to be interested in the Chelsea striker.

Thomas Tuchel in a post-match interview after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford shared his disappointment at Kai Havertz and Timo Werner for squandering good chances and claimed the Germany duo failed to reach their peak in the match.

Jamie Redknapp believes Chelsea will continue to lag behind Manchester City and Liverpool if they fail to sign a ‘natural finisher’.

What did Redknapp say?

Speaking on Sky Sports he said: “They felt Romelu Lukaku was going to be the missing piece to the jigsaw, the man who would get them 20, 25 goals to elevate them to the title race and it hasn’t worked out.’’

“[Timo] Werner’s not a natural finisher. Havertz, I love his movement. But they haven’t got that goalscorer like [Didier] Drogba or [Diego] Costa who’s going to get you the 20 or 25 goals that you are going to need to win the title and that’s really where they have come up short.”

Chelsea over the years has splashed huge cash on a striker with huge expectations but they fail to deliver at Stamford Bridge.

The likes of Alvaro Morata, Fernando Torres, and Timo Werner came with huge expectations but they failed to deliver at Stamford Bridge.

With this history, is it prudent for Chelsea to spend huge cash to buy a new striker or give Lukaku and Werner time to rediscover their form?
