Are you a big sports fan? Want to learn how to bet and win while you’re enjoying some football?

Fantasy football has been around since the ’60s, while betting on football has more or less been happening since the origin of the sport. If you’re already investing your time and attention on the wins of your favorite teams, why not try to score some of your own wins while you’re at it?

As you might already know, though, sports betting isn’t something you can just jump into uninformed. In order to maximize your chances of raking in the chips, you’ll need to understand the strategy behind it. Keep reading for our beginner’s guide to sports betting.

Betting on Football: Different Methods of Playing

One of the first things to know about betting on football is that there are multiple ways to do it. For beginners, we’ll go over the most popular ones. These are known as betting against the spread, futures, propositions, and parlays.

Point Spread Betting

Betting against the spread is one of the most popular ways to bet on football. A professional oddsmaker will study the top NFL picks and touchdown predictions, using this information to set an opening line. The opening line is based on a number that the oddsmaker believes will incite similar betting actions on both sides.

Once the opening line is set, the public can begin setting bets. You place bets based on what you think the outcome of the game will be. If a larger portion of the money is on one specific play, there could be a notable difference between the opening and closing lines.

Futures and Propositions Bets

Futures and propositions bets will take place before the season starts, and as it progresses. Futures bets are based on the success of a team or an individual player throughout the upcoming season. Proposition bets will be based on the performance of an individual player or team on a single specific event.

Teasers and Parlays

Lots of sports betters go for parlays, wherein you place two or more bets in combination. If all of your plays win, then you can score a big win for yourself.

Teasers, on the other hand, allow you to play multiple games by adjusting the lines. You’ll typically be able to adjust the point spread for 6 or 7 points if you choose. Some advanced options will allow you to take this even further.

Joining a Fantasy League

Another popular way of betting on football is joining a fantasy league. You can start your own pool with your friends and colleagues, or you can also find leagues online. Each player builds his or her “fantasy league” of players and wins points based on their players’ performance throughout the season.

Cashing in on Sports Betting

Learning how to bet on football and win takes time, but it’s worth the effort. Now that you’ve learned the basics of betting on football, you’ll be prepared to get out there and win!
