Cristiano Ronaldo has proved his doubters wrong as he made a sensational move from Juventus to Manchester United.
The 37 years old striker has scored 23 goals in 38 appearances including 17 in the Premier League and is currently behind Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son and two adrift of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot with the pair scoring 18 and 22 goals respectively.
However, Varane believes David De Gea has been the most consistent performer for the Red Devils as he has served Manchester United on so many occasions.
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick also shares the same opinion with the French international who believes the incoming Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag can build a team around the Spanish goalkeeper.
What did Varane say?
When quizzed if De Gea has been United’s best player this season, Raphael Varane replied: “I agree. David is having an amazing season. He helped us a lot. I think he has the experience and he’s an amazing goalkeeper.”
Varane also shared his excitement about working with Erik Ten Hag next season and expressed his desire of working with a World-class manager.
He added: “I played against them in the Champions League and they played very well.”
“I’m very excited to work with him. I’m looking forward to working with him. I think he has good experience and he’s a good person to work in this club.”
The French international’s first season at Manchester United has been marred by injuries, and he has only started 19 of Manchester United’s 36 Premier League games.
He still enjoys playing for United and is looking forward to having a bigger impact in the coming season now that the season is coming to an end.
He added:” think I need a full per-season to be fit and I think next season will be better.’’
“I think this season was not bad, but we can improve and we can do better.”
“I think we can improve,” he said. “I think we have good players and we have to defend together closer. I think this season we were a little bit irregular and I think we can improve and do better next season.
“We can be more in control during games. Sometimes we’re able to play very well for 20-30 minutes and then play bad for 10 or 15 minutes. We lost a lot of points like this. I think if we are consistent, we can improve a lot, so I think it’s a collective work we have to do. I’m always positive and I think with a good pre-season, with good work, we can prepare well for the next season and be ready to fight for every trophy. That’s the ambition of this club.”
Manchester United interim coach Ralf Rangnick believes Manchester United do not need to buy a goalkeeper this summer.
He told Skysports that :‘Apart from goalkeeping where we have three excellent goalkeepers in Tom Heaton, Dean Henderson and David de Gea, in all other areas there will be players leaving the club.”
‘I wouldn’t put focus on special areas of the pitch – it should go through the whole team.
It’s obvious quite a few players will leave and there is a need for top-quality players. I strongly believe that if everyone works together, we can bring Man United back to where we need to be.
‘Other clubs only needed two or three transfer windows to challenge but from now on we need to bring in top-quality players who really help raise the level. If this happens then I don’t think it should take too long.’
