According to Harris’ campaign co-chair, “We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted.” Vice President Kamala Harris will not address supporters tonight from her alma school in Washington, D.C., as was originally scheduled.
Cedric Richmond, the co-chair of the Harris campaign, gave a brief speech to the crowd at Howard University early on Wednesday, telling them that Harris will speak to voters there that day. The precise time that will happen was not specified.
Richmond assured those assembled at Howard that there were “still votes to be counted” despite the dire situation facing Democrats at that time of night.
Adding, “We still have states that have not been called yet,” Richmond said. “We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken.”
Videos of those gathered at Howard leaving the building as the race seemed to be shifting in favor of Republicans started to circulate online before Richmond addressed the gathering and told them Harris would not be speaking as originally scheduled.
About an hour before the contest for President-elect Donald Trump was announced, Richmond gave the impression that Harris would be retiring early. Early Tuesday night, Republicans regained control of the Senate as well, and if the GOP wins enough House of Representatives seats, they might still secure a supermajority.
As scheduled, Trump is still scheduled to address voters tonight at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.
