Chelsea will be in action against their London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium. The blues have experienced several injuries this season. This has partly been blamed for Chelsea’s round of poor form.
Graham Potter’s side will still be without N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic for their trip to North London despite the two returning for training this week.
Providing an injury update on N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic ahead of the Tottenham Hotspurs match, Graham Potter said at a press conference: “The players who missed Southampton will be back. We’ve had a good week’s training; everybody’s available pretty much, apart from N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic.
“They are certainly making progress. They are joining the warm-up at the moment and they will be more integrated next week. So that’s good.”
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was taken off the pitch on a stretcher in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat against Southampton after sustaining a head injury.
Providing an update on Cesar Azpilicueta, Graham Potter said: “He’s okay, as okay as you can be when you’ve had that type of concussion,’ explained our head coach. ‘He’s around the place, around the boys. It’s great to see him.
“Obviously he won’t be available to play at the weekend, we need to go through the right protocols, but the good news is he’s doing well.”
Meanwhile, Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole sends a message to Mason Mount amid Liverpool and Manchester United speculation.
There were reports over the week that contract negotiations between Chelsea and Mason Mount have broken down. The England midfielder is in the last 18 months of his contract at Chelsea.
Chelsea is reportedly ready to listen to offers for the 24-year-old if a new deal is not agreed upon in the summer.
Manchester United and Liverpool are reported to be monitoring the Mason Mount Contract situation.
Mount is experiencing a dip in form and has lost his position in Chelsea’s starting eleven.
However, Joe Cole has expressed his admiration for Mason Mount and has advised Chelsea to give him a new contract.
Joe Cole revealed on 90 min: “Mason Mount is probably sitting there thinking, “I have performed for this club for three or four years now, I won the Champions League, I’ve been pushed forward in every campaign….”
“He’s a leader, and he sacrifices himself for the team. He wants to stay at Chelsea, and I’m sure he does.
“I don’t for the life of me understand, and I don’t know the dealings – they’re probably far apart on where they’re valuing each other. He probably thinks: “Where do I sit?”
“He’s out the team now, which is a dangerous position to be in for Mason and for Chelsea. Football is very fickle, and we can forget what a good player Mason Mount is.
“Even more so in this generation, players go away for three or four weeks, and they’re forgotten. I think Chelsea needs to remember what a great player he is. He will come good.
“[A contract renewal] would be at the top of my list for Chelsea. There must be some middle ground to solve it.”
