Chelsea have suffered a back-to-back defeat in the Premier League for the first time under Graham Potter and the first since 2020. The back-to-back defeat means Chelsea have dropped to the seventh position in the Premier League.
The blues have earned only two points in their last four Premier League matches and could drop further if things do not improve in their next Premier League game against Newcastle United.
However, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has admitted that Arsenals were the betters team, and their confidence everything sums up why they are top of the Premier League.
What did Graham Potter say about Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal?
Speaking at a press conference after the game, Graham Potter said: “We played against a team in a really good moment, a confident team and you can see the points they have so credit to them.
“The boys gave everything, it was huffing and puffing but missed that last bit. The goal was disappointing, but overall they deserved it.
“Arsenal are in a good moment and have been working together for a long time with a good understanding of what they want to do.
“We lacked a bit of quality. The effort was there, we were just beaten by the better team. It was not a great goal from our perspective.
“It’s an indication of where we are and what we need to do better. Mikel Arteta has done a good job, they are in a good place and we’re slightly different.”
Graham Potter also expressed his disappointment in his team’s performance against Arsenal.
He added: “Of course, it always is to lose a game as we did. We huffed and puffed I thought, but I think you could see the difference between the two teams in terms of confidence, in terms of points they’ve got, in terms of their structure, and work together.
“We’re not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end, as much as it’s not nice to say, I think Arsenal deserved to win the game and were the better team overall. We have to take that and use it as motivation to improve.
Chelsea did not create a clear-cut chance against Arsenal despite being the home team. Chelsea manages only one shoot in 90 minutes against Arsenal.
Asked how he will resolve the problem of chance creation, he said: “Yeah, of course. Again, there are two teams on the pitch and I think Arsenal defend well, press well, and make it difficult for you to create chances.
“That’s what the top teams do and Arsenal are a top team at the moment. I don’t like to say that but it’s probably the reality. When that is the case, we need to do better in terms of how we create chances because otherwise you’re zooming in on individuals and it’s a team issue.
“As I said, if the opponent does things well, they pressed well…we had some opportunities in terms of three-vs-three and four-vs-fours in the final third but that lacked that last pass. If I am looking at how we build our attacks generally, we are not as fluid and in as good a place as I would like us to be. There are lots of reasons for that but clearly that is where we have to improve as well.”
