Chase Oliver, a Libertarian running as a Libertarian in Georgia for the seat currently held by Democrat Raphael Warnock, said he would be “glad” to force a runoff since it would indicate that voters are dissatisfied with both Democrats and Republicans.
To win outright in Georgia, candidates must earn 50% plus one vote.
According to recent polls, Oliver has roughly 4% of the vote. He is unlikely to win the Senate campaign against Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker, who is embroiled in multiple personal-life scandals. However, the Libertarian may drive his opponents into a runoff election in January.
“I’m glad there’s a runoff because we need more than 50% support for a candidate to be elected,” Oliver told the media. “I do not believe in majority voting. That’s how you get someone with 40% of the vote representing 100% of the population. So runoffs are a system that prevents this from happening.”
