Former Manchester United skipper Gary Neville has slammed media comments that Steve Gerrard can ginger his Aston Villa players to stun Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

Manchester City are four points ahead of Liverpool on the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s have one Match remaining to win their fourth Premier League title in five years. The Citizens need a win on Sunday to retain their Premier League title.

Liverpool will face Southampton on Tuesday at the St. Mary’s stadium.a win against Southampton will move Jurgen Klopp’s side one point behind Manchester City with all to play for on Sunday.

On the Final day of the Premier League, Manchester City will face Aston Villa at the Etihad while Liverpool will face Wolves at Anfield.but Manchester City could be crowned Champions on Tuesday if Southampton beats Liverpool.

However, Gary Neville has rubbish the claims that Steve Gerrard can motivate his players to put on extraordinary performances against Manchester City  because he is a Liverpool Legend.

What did Neville say?

In an Instagram chat with Jamie Carragher he said:’’I don’t buy into this Steven Gerrard thing at all, the fact that he’s going to go there and he’s going to get them fired up.

“Trust me, the Villa players won’t give two hoots who they’re playing on Sunday. They’re not connected to the Liverpool emotion bit.

“Steven Gerrard can’t go in and say, “I’m ex Liverpool, make sure you win this one for Liverpool” – the players will just laugh at him!

“So this idea, this Gerrard thing, that he’ll go there and win for Liverpool is just absolute nonsense. That is not going to happen.

“The Villa players, none of them care. Coutinho, who else is there with connections to Liverpool? Coutinho that’s it. Danny Ings.

“But those Villa players aren’t thinking about helping Liverpool at all. Not in any way, shape or form.

“And Steven Gerrard has been giving the same messages to those players for the last few months.

“I don’t buy into this Gerrard thing that’s going to happen on Sunday, I don’t at all. Stevie Gerrard will want to win the game just for his own professional reasons, so will the players.

“But this idea that he’ll be able to get an unbelievable performance out of Villa just because of his emotion and feeling towards Liverpool, don’t get caught up in that crap, that is just pure media stuff.’’

Both Manchester City and Liverpool have serious injury concerns heading to the finals games of Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola confirmed in a press conference that Kyle Walker, John Stone  and Ruben Diaz will miss the rest of the season through injury and in their last two games Fernandinho had been deployed as center back.

Liverpool on the other hand enter Tuesday game with injuries to Star man Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk. Mo Salah and Van Dijk sustained during Liverpool FA cup finals victory over Chelsea on Saturday.

Manchester City Fans will turn into Southampton supporters on Tuesday as victory for Southampton could see them crowned Champions.
