The former goalkeeper said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Aubameyang is a quality finisher and we’ve seen that. He looks confident.
“In this team, all he has to do is time his runs and he will keep getting opportunities. If he stays in this form, he could meet that 20 goals number.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has revealed the reason behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s current goal-scoring form.
Asked what he has done special to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Potter said: “No, we’ve not done anything special, it’s all down to him. He has been building his fitness up.
“We spoke before that. He came from a difficult summer, so it’s been a case of building up his match minutes up and the more he gets, the stronger he gets, and the more we understand him, the more he understands us. Everyone knows his quality, and it’s great for him. He looks like he is enjoying his football and scoring goals is important.”
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has also hailed the Team’s mentality after a 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro.
Mason said: “It was a massive win.
“We needed that, we needed a win, we needed a big performance after the last game at home and we managed to pull it off.
“We knew going into the game at home a win was massive and vital for us and now to come away and play at the San Siro and to get another win, make it two in a row, is massive for our journey in the Champions League and it’s put us at the top now.
“We showed great personality, a great mentality, to go there and perform, go 2-0 up, and then control the second half.
“To go there and win takes a lot. It doesn’t just take playing good football, you have to be mentally strong because the fans obviously play a big part. When we were having good possession and were on top of them, the fans helped them a lot. You have to deal with the crowd and we did that from the first minute.”
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will hope to continue his excellent goal-scoring form when Chelsea fans Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
