Edouard Osoque Mendy is a professional footballer born on 1st March 1992 to his mother (a Senegalese) and father (from Guinea Bissau) in Montivilliers, Northern France. He is also known to be cousins with Ferland Mendy.
Mendy started his Career at Le Havre Athletic Club at the age of 13, He played there for 7 years, but after struggling to hold down a regular playing spot, he dropped down the levels to gain playing time with CS Municipaux.
He then signed his career contract with AS Cherbourg in 2011 where he began his professional football career. He was released in 2014 and became jobless for a whole year and started his journey in search of a job. Edouard Mendy’s friend, Ted Lavie, also known to be his former teammate, helped him sign a deal as the fourth keeper for Marseille with which he spent the whole season as a goalkeeper for the reserve. After failing to make an appearance at Marseille B, he then joined Reims in 2016. He secured a starting position in 2017 after rising through the ranks at Reims. He helped Reims secure a promotion and He then moved to Rennes. Edouard’s shopkeeper’s stats were quite impressive and encouraging as he kept nine clean sheets in twenty-four league appearances in his season with Rennes.
Chelsea signed Mendy on a five-year contract in September 2020 for a reported fee of £22million.
