The world’s best goalkeeper will be quick to forget yesterday’s performance against Real Madrid as his horror mistake in the 46th minute gifted Karim Benzema a hat-trick for Real Madrid.

A terrible defensive mix-up between Édouard Mendy and Antonio Rüdiger allowed a tap-in for Karim Benzema.

Mendy received the ball outside his penalty area and attempted a sideways pass to Antonio Rudiger. He miskicked his pass to Rudiger allowing Benzema to put pressure on Rudiger. The German then made a poor attempt at a tackle, allowing Benzema to roll the ball into an open net.

The HatTrick against Chelsea saw Benzema break the record of most goals scored by a Frenchman in a single Champions League season. The Real Madrid superstar surpasses David Trezeguet, Wissam Ben Yedder, and international team-mate Kylian Mbappe – all of whom had scored eight goals in a single campaign in Europe’s elite club competition.

Benzema has now scored nine making him the Frenchman with the most goal in a single Champions League season.
