DNA evidence links a man who was detained in West Chicago last week to a sexual assault that took place in 2001, and the state’s attorney has announced that bond has been set at $5 million dollars in light of this evidence.
According to a press release issued by the office of the DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Alberto Gomez, 51, of Florence, Arizona, was charged with one count each of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual abuse, three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, and three counts of criminal sexual assault. Additionally, Gomez was charged with one count each of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual abuse.
According to the office of the District Attorney, the West Chicago Police Department acquired a DNA hit in the year 2022 for a sexual assault sample that had been taken in November 2001, when a woman was sexually assaulted in her apartment in West Chicago.
