Between 1979 and 1983, Dillon had eight chart appearances as a music artist, one of which was a top 30 success with “I’m into the Bottle (To Get You Out of My Mind).” He and his songwriting partner Gary Stewart appeared on several albums. Dillon’s early composer success led to a recording deal with Capitol Records, where he eventually released two albums. Out of Your Ever Lovin’ Mind, Dillon’s most significant and most recent studio album, was released on Atlantic Records in 1991.
The ubiquitous “Tennessee Whiskey” from 1981 was one of David Allan Coe’s early hits as a composer. Dillon has written several songs for George Strait, including “She Let Herself Go,” “Living for the Night,” and “Here for a Good Time,” alongside “Drinkin’ Man,” “I Believe,” & Strait, his son Bubba, and Dillon wrote the last five songs.
He first heard Sundance Head perform in 2018 at a Houston Rodeo and fell in love with his voice. When I first heard “Dance,” I asked, “Where has THIS guy been hiding?” With a few noteworthy exceptions, I’ve been in the music industry for decades and have never heard someone sing like this man. “He’s quite unique,” said Dillon. With the help of some Texas business associates, Dillon signed Sundance Head to his record label, WildCatter Records. Stained Glass and Neon, their debut album as a pair, was released on January 25, 2019.
