There were reports this week that Thomas Tuchel has asked the Chelsea board to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The former Arsenal forward joined Barcelona in the winter transfer after terminating his contract with Arsenal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had an immediate impact at Barcelona scoring 13 goals in 23 appearances including 11 gaols in 17 Laliga appearances. Only Memphis Depay scored more laliga goals than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang despite joining Barcelona in January.
With the arrival of Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona, The 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order. Chelsea currently does not have a natural striker following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan on Loan.
Thomas Tuchel has been complaining about his attackers’ inability to convert their chances.
This problem was evident in Chelsea’s 4-0 defeat to Arsenal and Charlotte Fc. The Blues’ top goals scorer last season in the Premier League last was Mason Mount with 11 goals.
The former Aston Villa striker believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be perfect for Chelsea and help solve their goal-scoring woes.
What did Darren Bent Say about Chelsea’s interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?
Speaking on TalkSports Drive, the former England international said: “It would be a good addition to the squad.
“One thing we know about Aubameyang is that when he goes to a new football club he hits the ground running.
“At Barcelona, he’s got 11 goals in 17 league appearances. At Arsenal, he got ten in his first 14 appearances. Incredible.
“He is someone who knows where the back of the net is. His goalscoring records are fantastic.
“Chelsea needs someone who’s going to stick the ball in the back of the net, that was supposed to be Romelu Lukaku last season… Mason Mount was Chelsea’s top scorer with 11, then Havertz with eight, then Lukaku with eight.
“They need to find someone who can be a main source of goals and I think Aubameyang when he gets to a new club – he’s fresh, he’s excited, he’s hungry, he will get you the goals.”
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored 68 goals in 128 Premier League appearances and he also shared the Premier League Golden with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the 2018/ 2019 season.
The 38-year-old also indicated that he will prefer Gabriel Jesus in the Arsenal team rather Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The former Aston Villa forward added: “It went wrong at Arsenal for Aubameyang so you’d say Jesus as he’s fresh and hungry.
“I said earlier that Aubameyang’s proven. Jesus is proven but we don’t know if he can do it down the middle consistently in the Premier League for a full season. We’ve seen Aubameyang do that.
“I think where Arsenal are at right now I’d prefer Gabriel Jesus. But I think Chelsea, who really need a No.9 and someone who could stick the ball in the back of the net, he’d probably be perfect for them.”
There were also rumors that Chelsea was interested in Victor Osihmen from Napoli. His move from Napoli this summer has become imminent following the comments by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis saying he will not sign African players unless they sign a contract preventing them from playing in AFCON.
