Former England Goalkeeper David Seaman has snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah, and Son Heung-min as he picks Manchester City new signing Erling Haaland as his favorite to win the Premier League Golden Boot award for the 2022/2023 season.
Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min shared the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 23 goals each. The five-time Ballon D’or winner Christiano Ronaldo was the third top goal scorer in the Premier League with 18 goals.
However, David Seaman has snubbed all these players but had picked Erling Haaland as his Golden Boot and Premier League player of the year 2022/2023.
Erling Haaland comes to Manchester City with a rich vein of a goal scoring form, the 22-year-old scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund for two years.
Who is David Seaman’s picks for the Gooden Boot and Premier League players of the year?
The legendary Goalkeeper speaking on his Podcast the Seaman says Podcast, former Arsenal goalkeeper said: “I know he [Haaland] missed some chances at the weekend [in the Community Shield defeat to Liverpool], but he was in the right place at the right time for quite a few things.
“He’s one of those players that’s always around the goal, he’s not going out wide or dropping deep like [Harry] Kane does. I think the competition will be between Haaland and Kane. If Haaland is on penalties for City that could be key.
“For Player of the Season, I’m going to go Haaland. I know it’s predictable but I’m just so excited to see what he does, and I just think he’s the perfect fit.”
This season, the race for the Golden Boot will be tighter as the likes of Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Darwin Nunez are all tipped to win the Golden Boot.
The 58-year-old also backed Arsenal and Tottenham to make the top four ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United.
The former England Goalkeeper added: “My top six is Liverpool at No.1, then Man City, Arsenal third, Tottenham fourth, Man United fifth, Chelsea sixth.
“I’ve been asked, “what is a good season for Arsenal?” and I say, “anything better than last season”.
“Last season was still good, it’s just annoying and disappointing that the other North London team beat us in the Champions League. But we’re back in Europe and I still feel that Arsenal have a better chance of winning the Europa League than they have the Champions league.
‘I’m so glad about the Arsenal summer signings because we need marquee signings. We don’t need players that need to prove themselves or that are going to be good cause we’ve got a lot of that already.
‘[Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko] are players that the young players can watch in training and on matchdays as well and try and copy and emulate that [champions mentality]. They’ve been there and won it. They’re winners and it’s great that Arsenal has got those two players in the club.
The Premier League commences today with Crystal Palace hosting Arsenal at Selhurst Park.
