Despite Cuellar’s assertion that he is the victor, Cisneros stubbornly refuses to concede defeat.
In the Democratic primary runoff against Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas’s 28th district, Republican Jessica Cisneros has only 177 votes to her name as of Tuesday.
Cuellar was first elected to Congress in 2005 and has served continuously since that year.
A self-assured Cuellar claimed in a statement that “tonight, the 28th Congressional District spoke, and we watched our glorious Democratic system at work.” Cuellar was referring to the vote that took place earlier tonight. I am ecstatic to learn that I have been re-elected as the congressional nominee for the Democratic Party now that all of the ballots have been counted.
