Ronaldo’s National teammate Jose Fonte has named Real Madrid as a club for Cristiano Ronaldo and has backed him to Manchester United to enjoy Champions League football.
According to Jose Fonte, Cristiano Ronaldo love the Champions League, and it’s the only way he can we the Ballon d’Or as he is not convinced the current Manchester United team can offer him that.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has missed the reported date for his pre-season return citing family issues as the reason behind his absence. This has sparked rumors of Manchester United exit as news broke that Cristiano Rinaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer.
Jorge Mendes who represents Cristiano Ronaldo has held talks with Barcelona and Chelsea over a possible transfer for the 37 years old Portuguese international. Ronaldo has one year left on his contract with an option to extend for an additional one year.
However, Jose Fonte believes his teammate loves the Champions League so he doesn’t expect him to compete in Europe with Manchester United next season.
What did Jose Fonte say about Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United future amid transfer speculations?
In an interview with talkSPORTs, The Portugal and Lile defender said: “What I do know is that the man loves the Champions League.
“He believes it is the best competition in the world and knows how he has to perform to win Ballons d’Or.
“Talking about Man United, I think they really have a good coach. I’ve played twice against Ajax and I was really impressed with the way they played and their philosophy.
“He needs to be winning trophies and competing for trophies for the Ballon d’Or.
“He is a serial winner, as everyone knows. He might be looking at the squad and thinking, ‘Am I going to be able to win some trophies this year?’
“Maybe he doesn’t believe it. I don’t know. Only he can say.”
Jose Font added that returning to Bayern Munich will be the best option for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Lile defender added: “Would he go back to Madrid? That would be, for him, the best.
“If they want him back or not, that’s a different question.”
Meanwhile, the 1990 World Cup winner with Germany Germany Lothar Matthaus believes Ronaldo’s move to Bayern Munich will be “sexy”.
Lothar Matthaus said: “At least you should think through the options and play through them once.
“If Bayern thinks that Cristiano Ronaldo is still physically able to really help for a year or two and that they can invest the transfer fee generated for Lewandowski more or less like-for-like in the Portuguese megastar, I would think about it.”
