Legislators in the state want to safeguard retail establishments that report theft to the police.
According to a source, the legal department of the City of Sacramento, California threatened to punish a well-known retail establishment for public nuisance following many reports to the police over theft from its Land Park site.
According to a source who was aware of the warning but wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, the Sacramento Bee stated that during the previous year, officials threatened to punish the Target store located at 2505 Riverside Boulevard in Land Park administratively.
When questioned about the purported warning, a police representative provided the magazine with confirmation of the location.
Legislators in the state amended a retail theft statute to make such threats against companies illegal after learning about the city’s alert and similar measures taken by other cities.
