1. Stay on Scene, but Get to Safety

When an accident happens, panic sets in quickly. It can be hard to think about what happened and what needs to happen next.

You’re number one priority is safety. If you can exit the vehicle and move off the road, that’s what you need to do. Make sure everyone involved in the accident can move to the side of the road, away from traffic.

Call 911 immediately, even if only minor injuries seem present. Don’t leave the scene of the accident, but wait until authorities arrive to provide assistance.

2. Survey the Damage and Connect With Drivers

If it’s safe to do so, document the damage. Take pictures of all vehicles involved from multiple angles.

Write down what happened in a notepad or in your smartphone. Then, collect insurance information from the other drivers to ensure you can properly file a claim.

Don’t admit fault to the other driver or to authorities.

3. Seek Medical Attention

Not all injuries from car accidents require emergency treatment. But you should still seek medical attention right away.

If you weren’t taken to the hospital, visit your primary care provider right away, even if insurance and legal claims haven’t been paid out yet. You’re health and safety are paramount, and immediate recovery is necessary to prevent long-term injuries.

4. Contact Your Insurance Company

As soon as you can, notify your insurance company after the accident. A claims adjuster will need to assess the damage and determine liability to decide how to proceed with your claim.

If you have a police report from the accident, that will help you out. Just make sure not to speak with the other driver’s insurance company if they try to contact you directly.

5. Contact a Car Accident Injury Attorney

When involved in a car accident, there’s a strong chance you are entitled to compensation for the physical, emotional, and financial effects of the accident.

No matter what, you should contact car accident injury lawyers to see how they can help you get back on your feet. Working with a lawyer for car accident injury problems can ensure you get what you deserve in the fastest, easiest way possible.

Contact these car accident lawyers if you need a place to start.

Moving Forward After a Car Accident Injury

Life after a car accident injury can be difficult. Hopefully, medical care will help to prevent any permanent damage. And legal counsel, along with insurance claims, can cover the financial cost of vehicle repairs and medical bills.
