According to BTA news agency, Bulgaria’s parliament on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, approved an $82.7 million purchase of Javelin anti-tank guided missiles from the United States to modernize the country’s army, boost its defense capabilities, and strengthen its position as a strategic NATO ally in Europe.
The U.S. Department of State had already approved the sale of Javelin FGM-148F missiles and related equipment for a total estimated cost of $114 million to Bulgaria on September 20, 2024.
According to the report, 164 deputies voted in favor of the deal in the 240-seat parliament.
Bulgaria, a member of NATO and the European Union, has indeed stepped up its efforts to modernize its military in response to the evolving security landscape, particularly following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
