The Athletic reports that Bernardo Silva, a midfielder for Manchester City, has been offered a lucrative opportunity to join the Saudi Pro League. However, he intends to deny the offer.
The report indicates that the Saudis will continue to pursue the 28-year-old Portugal international as they pursue additional high-profile signings this summer. N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy are due to join the Middle Eastern League, while Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have already made the transition.
Silva is under contract with Manchester City until 2025 but has been heavily linked with a transfer away from the three-time champions. Barcelona and PSG are reportedly both interested in midfielder Silva, with the former being a longtime admirer of the player. According to the report, Silva would resume his career in Europe instead of accepting a contract in the Saudi Pro League.
Barcelona was interested in signing Silva in January, but Man City was unwilling to part ways with the former Monaco star while the season was still in progress. Pep Guardiola, now that the season is over and he has time to locate a replacement, could be tempted to offload Silva.
Silva was instrumental in Manchester City’s treble-winning season last year, appearing 55 times in all competitions and contributing seven goals and eight assists.
