The state of Florida does not have a statute that prohibits the use of the word “gay” in any educational context.

The White House made statements decrying “discrimination” and a “disturbing and dangerous” trend of Republican legislators “cynically attacking LGBTQI+ individuals to earn political points” on Friday, the same day Florida’s parental rights bill went into force. The tendency was mentioned in Florida’s parental rights bill. These statements were made by the White House as the bill was being implemented.

When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation making the provisional prohibition permanent in March, it became illegal for instructors to discuss “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” with pupils in kindergarten through third grade. This prohibition had previously been in effect.
