Charges of felony child abuse have been brought against a Colorado babysitter for allegedly causing a 2-year-old boy’s massive brain hemorrhage, which required the removal of a portion of the boy’s skull.
The Lakewood Police Department declared on Thursday that McKinley Slone Hernandez, 25, had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.
According to an update from the department, she was jailed on a $100,000 bond the following day after being arrested without incident.

According to online records maintained by the jail, she remained incarcerated as of Monday and is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Court on December 20.
According to Stefanie Reichert, Hernandez hurt her son Giovanni, age 2, in September and had to undergo several surgeries to treat the brain bleed that followed.
The boy’s mother told the local news station in the USA that the boy needed another surgery after weeks in the hospital because part of his skull had to be removed.
Reichert said, “You never would think it would happen to you, especially by someone who you consider a friend,” to the television station. He’s not fond of strangers. He is no longer fond of the physicians and nurses. No one touches him. Everything we do in there needs to be done for him.”
The boy was “life-flighted to the children’s hospital after being harmed by the hands of the trusted caregiver,” according to the boy’s family, who started a GoFundMe page to pay for the child’s medical costs on September 1.
Following the boy’s initial surgery on September 2, an update stated, “This is something that no child or parent should ever have to endure.”
The family posted on their GoFundMe page, “We ended Thanksgiving with the best thing possible,” and “THE SUSPECT IS ISSUED A WARRENT [sic]. She is wanted for felony child abuse with a $100,000 bond. Get her name out there, because the Lakewood Police Department in Colorado is looking for her.
Giovanni’s family described his condition as “pretty swollen” and stated that his “right eye is [still] swollen shut.”
“He slept most of the day and I’m hoping for a better tomorrow,” Reichert stated.
