Another presidential election survey shows Trump leading Biden in 2024.
A national survey issued on Tuesday will almost certainly contribute to President Biden’s reelection chances next year.
According to a CNN poll, former President Donald Trump leads Biden 49%–45% among registered voters in a hypothetical 2024 general election battle, up from a 47%–46% lead in the same poll conducted in late August.
According to the poll, Biden’s reelection campaign is struggling with profoundly low approval ratings—39%–61% approval/disapproval—and nearly three-quarters of survey respondents believe the country is in bad shape. Furthermore, only one-quarter believe Biden has the stamina to serve in the White House.
The poll is the latest to hit the president in recent days.
A poll released over the weekend by Siena College and the New York Times showed Trump edging Biden in hypothetical matchups in five of the six key battleground states that Biden narrowly carried in 2020 on his way to the White House.
This survey, as well as the recent CNN poll, indicate that the president is losing support among Black and Hispanic voters, as well as younger people, all of whom have historically been essential sections of the Democratic Party’s base.
Furthermore, although the Siena/New York Times poll showed Biden falling to Trump, it also indicated that a generic Democratic nominee who has not yet been selected leads Trump by eight points in the 2024 presidential contest.
More bad news for the incumbent in the White House came from a nationwide CBS News poll released over the weekend. It showed that Trump would likely defeat Biden 51%–48% in a 2024 matchup.
In his third consecutive attempt to win the presidency, Trump is the clear favorite to receive the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee. As he created history by becoming the first-ever former or current president to be indicted for a felony, he witnessed his lead over his many opponents grow throughout the spring and summer. Trump’s four indictments, which have come from federal courts in Washington, D.C., and Fulton County court in Georgia on allegations that he attempted to rescind his loss in the 2020 presidential election, have only strengthened his support among Republicans.
Although Biden is behind Trump by four points in the CNN poll, the survey shows that in a fictitious battle with former South Carolina governor and ambassador Nikki Haley, Biden would be behind by six points. Biden is projected to lose by two points in 2024 against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, which is within the sampling error of the poll.
Additionally, according to the CNN survey, Trump defeated Biden 41%–35% in a four-way contest against independent candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy came in at 16% and West at 4%.
The president’s reelection campaign attacked the most recent polls, citing the Democrats’ unexpected victory in the previous year’s midterm elections and Obama’s reelection in 2012 despite polls a year earlier that predicted the incumbent would lose.
According to Kevin Munoz, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, “predictions more than a year out tend to look a little different a year later” on Sunday.
“Don’t take our word for it: Gallup predicted an eight point loss for President Obama only for him to win handedly a year later,” said Munoz. “Or a year out from the 2022 midterms when every major outlet similarly predicted a grim forecast for President Biden.”
According to the poll, Trump has 61% of the party’s support in the GOP presidential nomination contest, followed by DeSantis at 17%, Haley at 10%, and no other contender receiving more than 10% of the vote.
In the Democratic primary, Biden leads the field at 71%, followed by Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips at 11% and writer Marianne Williamson at 8%.
