Paris Saint-Germain has re-signed Xavi Simons and subsequently loaned him to RB Leipzig, the club has confirmed.
Last season, Simons had a spectacular run with PSV Eindhoven, netting 19 goals and registering nine assists in the Eredivisie. Due to this performance, PSG has decided to exercise their rumored £5 million buy-back option.
In addition to re-signing the 20-year-old, PSG has agreed to loan him to Bundesliga club RB Leipzig until the end of the current campaign.
“After a season with PSV Eindhoven, Xavi Simons has returned to Paris Saint-Germain until 2027,” reads a club statement. The Dutch attacking midfielder will spend the 2023-2024 season on loan with German club RB Leipzig.
Simons expressed his excitement about playing in the Bundesliga to RB Leipzig’s official channels after signing on loan: “The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in Europe, and RB Leipzig are one of the top teams in the Bundesliga. Coming to Leipzig is the correct move for me because RBL consistently demonstrates how to develop and succeed with young players.
“I’m joining a club that routinely competes in the Champions League. The team is comprised of an ideal blend of young and veteran athletes, and the entire organization is hungry for success. I was immediately impressed by RB Leipzig’s playing style, and I am confident that my skills will be a good fit for this club, and that we can accomplish a lot together.
“I cannot wait to begin the new season and perform with my new teammates. “I cannot wait for Leipzig!”
