The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has purchased the rights to broadcast two of England’s three group stage games at the World Cup, including their battle with Iran on the second day of the tournament.
In the most recent free-to-air broadcasting deal, ITV will show the second match against the United States, as well as the last 16 and quarter-finals.
For more than 50 years, terrestrial stations have negotiated a share of coverage for big events, and ITV is thought to have had the first selection this year.
The BBC will broadcast England’s group stage encounter against Wales, but it will have to wait until the semi-finals to show another possible Three Lions showdown. ITV will also broadcast the United States match versus Wales on November 21.
On November 27, Spain will face Germany, according to the BBC.
On the second day of the competition, the three Lions face Iran at 1 pm GMT. The match is the first senior international encounter between the nations, and it promises to be an interesting diplomatic match, considering that the draw occurred only weeks after the UK eventually obtained the release of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Following Iran, England will strive to defeat the United States in a World Cup finals match for the third time, following a stunning defeat in 1950 and a draw in South Africa in 2010. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. GMT on November 25. England’s third game against the winner of the postponed European play-off begins on November 29 at 7 p.m. GMT.
According to Niall Sloane, ITV’s director of sport, “The World Cup is now the focal point, and we’re delighted to be able to bring viewers coverage of what promises to be some of the standout games of the tournament across ITV channels and our new free streaming service, ITVX.” “The World Cup is now in the spotlight, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring coverage of what promises to be some of the standout games of the tournament,” “Football fans all across the world are living through an exciting era right now.”
We are quite pleased with the pairings that we have chosen,” Philip Bernie, head of TV sport at the BBC, made this statement. Both of England’s games in the group stage, against Iran and Wales, as well as the showdown between Spain and Germany, as well as the heavyweight matchup between these two countries, as well as the significant games involving Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, France, and Belgium, and the first pick of the semi-finals, are eagerly anticipated.
The World Cup is expected to be a huge event that will top off a significant sporting year on the BBC, and the corporation will provide comprehensive coverage of the tournament across all of its platforms, including television, the BBC iPlayer, radio, the internet, and social media, around the clock.
