As the famous adage goes, “patience is a virtue”; that is the story of Luke Wintrip.
Luke Wintrip, 36, has been trying his luck to marry his girlfriend, Sarah Wintrip, 38, since 2018. Thankfully, after 42 rejections and seven years of waiting, Sarah Wintrip finally says yes to Luke on his 43rd attempt.
The couple tied the knot on May 17, 2025, but the story of their love journey stole the show.

According to Sarah, the reason for rejecting Luke’s proposal six months into their relationship in 2018 is that he had just had a breakup from a serious relationship and was not ready to commit to another, and a key reason was her three daughters.
Sarah, in her own words, said, “I didn’t expect it,” she recalled of the first proposal, which took place during a romantic horse ride in Jamaica. “I loved him, but I didn’t want to say ‘yes’ to something I later retracted. I wanted to make sure with kids and everything going on that it was right. Luke said, ‘Okay, fine, but I’m going to keep asking you.”
Luke, who was not bothered by the constant rejection, became more creative in his proposal, hiring musicians, organizing candlelit dinners, and proposing in an abandoned castle.
“I knew it was early, but I just knew she was the one,” he said. “My friends said to me, ‘You’re trying to beat her down,’ but it wasn’t that. I wanted to prove to her how much I want this, and I hoped one day the girls would look at it and go, ‘Well, if Luke loves Mum that much, I need to find someone that loves me that much.’”

Sarah finally said yes on the 43rd time in 2023 after telling Luke to wait a year after his 42nd proposal. The ‘D-day’ came in Greenwich, Southeast London, home to the Royal Observatory, where Greenwich Mean Time is measured.
“When he proposed, he said, ‘This is the center of the world, and you are the center of my world, and I want you to marry me’. He finally won my heart,” Sarah recounted.
Reflecting on the decision to finally say yes to Luke, she said, “If they’re the one, they’ll put in the effort. You don’t have to say ‘yes’ if you’re not ready. You can say, ‘Not right now.’”
“I think he probably should get a Guinness World Record. I am grateful he persisted for so long.”
