A mother in Wisconsin has stated that she will not bow to the “tyranny” of the Oconomowoc School District, which has threatened her with legal action.
A mother in Wisconsin alleges that the Oconomowoc Area School District threatened her with legal action to suppress her criticism of things, such as books, in the district. The mother’s complaint was directed toward the Oconomowoc Area School District.
It is common knowledge that after the president of No Left Turn in Education, Alexandra Schweitzer, expressed her displeasure with the district’s use of “defamatory comments,” the district responded by sending her a cease-and-desist letter and threatening legal action if she continued to speak out against the district’s actions. As a form of response, her legal representatives from the Wisconsin Law & Liberty group indicated that Schweitzer “would not be withdrawing any remark she made” and accused the district of utilizing taxpayer dollars to stifle the speech of a parent.
The law firm stated that the Oconomowoc Area School District’s use of outside counsel to intimidate parents who speak up in good faith about their experiences with a school district was “contrary to both our Constitution and the public responsibilities that your clients have.” This was done to prevent parents from commenting negatively about the school district.
For her response, the mom’s attorney, Libby Sobic, told authorities that the district’s claim was “extremely serious” and that it was an attempt to bully tactic parents. She stated that the district’s allegation was an attempt to intimidate parents. They have no legal options available to them because the allegations made by our client may or may not be true, and she may or may not have met the requirements for libel under the law.
