Tiemoue Bakayoko has left Chelsea just in time, with transfer windows across Europe closing left right and centre.
The central midfielder looked close to a return to AC Milan, where he had been on loan two seasons ago, but the move didn’t work out. TuttoMercatoWeb today explain exactly why.
Earlier in the summer, Inter Milan were chasing much coveted central midfielder Sandro Tonali. AC were going to have to settle for unwanted Chelsea man Bakayoko on loan.
But when AC Milan managed to pull off the coup of signing Tonali themselves, suddenly Bakayoko was an unnecessary extra. With not long left to conclude a deal, the Blues were back to square one.
Luckily for them, Baka’s manager from his spell at Milan – Gennaro Gattuso – had moved to Napoli last season, and was still keen on bringing his old charge back to Serie A. In the end, this might work out for the best, for Milan, Bakayoko and Napoli.
