Sensors are devices that measure physical conditions or chemical reactions. These sensors are often used in conjunction with microcontrollers (MCUs) to control the operation of electronic equipment. There are many different types of sensors including temperature sensors, humidity sensors, pressure sensors, flow sensors, and others. Today, we will learn about DHT11 sensors. So, let’s begin!

What is a DHT11 sensor?

DHT11 is a humidity sensor that measures relative humidity (RH) using capacitive technology. It is designed to measure RH between 0% and 100%. It is a small, low-cost device that is ideal for use in any type of environment where accurate measurement of RH is desired. These sensors are commonly used in greenhouses and other types of indoor environments where air quality is critical. The DHT11 sensor uses two thermistors to measure the temperature and humidity of the air. A small amount of water vapor condenses onto the surface of the thermistor and changes its electrical resistance. By measuring the change in resistance, the DHT11 sensor provides a reading of the relative humidity of the air.

Difference between DHT11 Sensor and Module

The difference between the DHT11 sensor and the module is that the module has a filtering capacitor and pull-up resistor inbuilt, and for the sensor, you have to use them externally if required. Another difference is that the module is connected to the Arduino board while the DHT11 sensor is not. So if you want to use a DHT11 sensor then you need to buy a DHT11 sensor module separately.

Where to use DHT11 Sensors

DHT11 is a commonly used Temperature and humidity sensor. It comes with a dedicated NTC and 8-bit microcontroller. The NTC helps to measure temperature and an 8-bit microcontroller helps to output the values of temperature and humidity as serial data. The sensor can measure temperature from 0°C to 50°C and humidity from 20% to 90%.

DHT11 sensors are great for monitoring the temperature of your grow room and helping you keep track of your plants’ temperatures throughout their lifecycle. You can use them to monitor the temperature of your plants at any stage of growth, whether they’re germinating seeds, seedlings, or flowering.

How to use DHT11 sensors?

DHT11 Humidity Sensors are small devices that measure relative humidity (RH) inside a room. They work by measuring the amount of water vapor molecules present in the air. When RH increases, the number of water molecules in the air also increases. Therefore, the device measures the change in the concentration of water vapor in the air.

The DHT11 sensor uses a microcontroller to convert the measured value into digital data. The data is then transmitted via serial port to the computer using the RS232 protocol.

You can connect the DHT11 sensor to the Arduino board using a USB cable. To install the software, follow these steps:

  • Connect the DHT11 sensor and the Arduino board to your PC using the USB cable.
  • Open the folder where you have downloaded the software.
  • Double click on the file named “Arduino_DHT11_Humidity_Sensor”.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • Wait until the installation completes.
  • Once installed, open the Serial Monitor window.
  • In the Serial Monitor window, enter the IP address of the Arduino board.
  • Enter the baud rate of 9600.
  • Press the Reset button on the Arduino board.

Once the connection between the Arduino board and the PC is established, you can start uploading the code to the board.

What is the cost of DHT11 sensors?

DHT11 Humidity Sensors are used to measure the relative humidity inside a room. They are low-cost devices that provide accurate readings over a wide range of temperatures. Generally, DHT11 sensor price at ₹150 – ₹5000 per piece.

Conclusion Paragraph: DHT11 is a low-cost temperature and humidity sensor. It is used in a wide range of applications, from weather stations to industrial controls. The sensor price varies depending on where you purchase it, but it is typically around $5-$10.
